Mill Fully Converted to CNC. I currently have many tools in my shop. My favorite one is the CNC mill I built from an old 1954 Benchmaster mill. It's heavy duty and very rigid. It works excellent and I run it with Mach3. Original mill before CNC conversion. The mill is old and uses worn out ACME lead screws.

Benchmaster sold their mills, accessories, and motors ala carte. They offered motors from 1/3 to 3/4 HP, single phase and three phase, 1725 rpm and 1140 rpm, with and without motor starters. We have both a Burke mill and a Benchmaster vertical in out shop, and the Burke is not appreciably bigger. I would say it is built slightly heavier. Ah, my first mill.They are a small mill with NO quill. All Z work is done with the knee. Though they look like a tabletop mill the knee leadscrew protrudes through the base a foot or better. They take an MT2 taper in the spindle. They come in both vertical or horizontal configurations. For the work you propose I would suggest something stouter. lg
